Here’s To Faith in 2016

2015 has come and gone. As much as I would like to say it was an instant, blink-of-an-eye-type thing, it wasn’t.  2015 didn’t quite take forever, either.  For the first time in a long time, I think I was able to thoroughly enjoy my time in this year and am almost sad to see it go.

I’m sure there are many people who wonder why I feel this way with all the negative things that have happened here and abroad. To those people, I say that I feel sad, mad, and depressed.  After all, I am human.  However, to me, those moments are fleeting. I choose not to dwell on those things because that means that evil is winning. And I refuse to let that happen.

Personally, I’ve been met with travesty. But I always pull the good out of those bad times because those are the most important things to have:

There may have been issues of not having my house completely built by the time we closed on it. However, we have our brand new home and have enjoyed 10 months living here so far and can’t wait for many more years! It made for a nice sanctuary two days before we moved in when our lights when out for hours during a snowstorm at our old place.

There is even baggage brought into this year from past years that I just ran away from and applied quick fixes to so I wouldn’t have to worry about it. I can look at past failures, non-starts, abandonment of my academic career. However, I can proudly say that now I am a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University with a bachelors’ degree in Computer Science.

There are issues I try to keep outside of my “ivory tower” I just built. I’ll admit it, anything that happens outside of my house with the rest of my family, I never really wanted to know about. It always seemed like a big ball of negativity that just waited outside my door. However, things are turning around back home. I still won’t let much in, but I’m glad to see my family doing so much better this year.

This last bit’s still a bit painful, but I have to get it off my chest.

There are times when you lose something that means more to you than anything in the world. You’d pray and give up anything to get it back. Nothing anybody can say or do will ever bring it back. Just writing this makes me feel the hole in my heart. However, there is always a positive. We proved people wrong. I’ve only heard from what has been said years ago that it couldn’t be done, but we did it anyway, because we believed it could happen. And, because it happened, I know we can do it again!

Now, I’ve been called crazy. Fuck it! I call half the shit I do crazy after the fact. You have to be crazy nowadays in order to succeed and getting what you want. To see the good through the bad. To have faith in that good will triumph always. It doesn’t matter what you believe in as long as you know that if you are doing the right things for yourself and others, things do have a way of working out. It may not be instant. You will get your feet swept from under you and the wind knocked out of you (some metaphorically and others physically, your milage may very), but know that if you get back up, dust yourself off, and have great people in your corner, you’ll get through it.

Doing the right thing doesn’t always have to be hard. If you see someone down and out, help them up. Don’t ignore them. Lift them up. You may already be at that place, so help them get to where you are so that you all may achieve greater things together. The more people you have with you, the quicker you get there. That’s just basic math at that point.

In the same token, never forget about yourself. You will never get to higher heights if you don’t take care of yourself. Remember to enjoy life every now and then. Life is a struggle but take time to enjoy it. It doesn’t hurt to indulge a little. This is so you know why you do what you do. If you keep “grindin'” and “hustlin'”, you may just miss out on what you are “grindin'” and “hustlin'” for.

Promise me you’ll take a look at what’s happened this year and look for the good and next year and for many years to come, you’ll actually take a look out the window from time to time and look at all the good that is still happening.

I promise you, its worth the look…
