A new feature appeared a while back for those who use Skype for Android, Mac and iOS.  Users now have the ability to send video messages to other users similar to voice or text messaging.  This has come on the heels of Vine being released from Twitter’s camp and Poke being launched by Facebook.  It was only a matter of time when Skype, now owned by Microsoft, was going to come out with a similar option.

If you are one of the millions of users who have Skype installed on any of the platforms mentioned (and if you don’t, shame on you, j/k), you can get to it fairly easily. With Android, you access it by clicking on the user you would like to send the message to, tapping on the “+” icon (top right on tablet UI and last item on phone UI), select “Video message” and then hitting the record button to record.

According to Engadget, Skype has stated that they are planning on having unlimited voice (and probably video) messaging as part of a premium subscription.  They also had this to say about a lack of a Windows option.

“Users in these markets across all Windows desktop and mobile platforms can receive messages, too.  We will have send capability in Windows by end of April.  In the meantime, we continue to test this new feature in its early release.”
