Today, Facebook released the newest version of their Messenger application for both iOS and Android.  The update includes the ability to send voice messages alongside text to other users.

You can access it the same way you add images to your messages.  Once selected, users must hold down the record button to speak and once they let go, the message is sent.  If you are unhappy with the message that you are recording, simply slide your finger off the button and lift.

This feature is available in all regions, but the Canadians get something special.  Facebook is experimenting with VoIP (Voice over IP).  In the Canadian version of the app, users are allowed to set up peer-to-peer connections for voice chat.

There has been no work on when this will be coming to the US.
